is a Co-op? |
Special
Features |
| The Pine Lake Co-op Preschool is a
non-profit organization sponsored by the Bellevue
Community College Parent Education Program. The
preschool has been in operation since 1973
promoting a philosophy of creative discovery and
social development to prepare children for
advanced learning.
Our preschool provides an interactive program for
parents and their children. Parents assist in the
classroom one to three days per month, depending
on the age of the child, and have a committee
position. This hands-on experience allows parents
a unique opportunity to be involved with their
child's preschool education by observing the
child in the school setting and participating in
running the preschool.
Parent education is provided in monthly evening
meetings where topics relevant to the age and
developmental stage of the children in the
program are discussed by a parent educator. Our
teachers hold degrees in education and are
trained in early childhood education. They
understand that each child is changing in their
physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and
behavioral development. |

is a typical day? |

The
preschool curriculum is designed to provide a
full range of activities that are developmentally
appropriate, creative and fun.
- Free play -
during the first hour of class children
have “free play” time. Sensory
tables with interesting materials are set
up, along with a water play table, paint,
playdough, and art and science projects.
Children may choose to read books in a
loft, dress up in costumes, play in a
kitchen or engage in various other
cooperative and dramatic play options.
- Circle time -
Children sit together with the teacher to
hear stories and learn songs, finger
plays and movement games. Sharing days
are also part of circle time, where each
child brings a favorite item from home to
show to his or her classmates.
- Concept time
- the teacher presents a focused topic in
such areas as science or nature.
- Outside Play
- children use large motor skills for
climbing, sliding, swinging, and playing
in the sandbox . During inclement
weather, an indoor play area is provided
with balls, riding toys, basketball and
bowling toys.
